Part 3 Wise Men
Jesus the Bread of Life (John 6:48) was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
Bethlehem = Beth (house) and Lehem (bread)
Jesus, the Bread of life was born in the House of Bread.
Matthew 2:1, “Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod.”
Matthew 2:2, “We saw His star as it rose, and we have come to worship Him.” 
Matthew 2:3, “King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem.”
 
Matthew 2:4-6, “For this is what the prophet wrote: ‘And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah, are not least among the ruling cities of Judah, for a ruler will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’” 
 
Matthew 2:7-8, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!”
 
Matthew 2:9, “The star went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was.”
 
Matthew 2:10, “When they saw the star, they were filled with joy.”

They brought Jesus - 
GOLD, pointing to his DIETY - for He is God.
FRANKINCENSE pointing to His MAJESTY - for Jesus is King.
MYRRH pointed to His humanity - for He would suffer and die.
 
5 Truths about Worship 
1. Worship Begins with Seeing

Matthew 2:2,11, “We saw his star as it rose… they saw the child with His mother Mary and the bowed down and worshipped Him.”

Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

 
2. Worship Requires Seeking

Matthew 2:2, “We saw the star and we came to worship him.”

Jeremiah 29;13,14, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you.” 

Isaiah 45:19, “I would not have told the people of Israel to seek me if I could not be found.” 

Matthew 7:7, “Seek and you will find.” 

 
3. Worship Is Grounded in Scripture

Matthew 2:4-6, “Where is the Messiah supposed to be born? “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they said, “for this is what the prophet wrote.”

John 4:22,23, “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”  

John 1:1-5, “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

 
4. Worship Is Expressed by Submission

Matthew 2:11, “They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.”

John 3:30, “He must become greater; I must become less.” 

Matthew 2:12, “When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.” 

Matthew 7:6, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”

Luke 6:46, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”

 

5. Worships Demands Sacrifice

Matthew 2:11, “Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” 

Genesis 22:5, “He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

Romans 12:1, “I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
