“I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”
Luke 1:38
“This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 1:18
“Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man, and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.”
Matthew 1:19
“As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. ‘Joseph, son of David,’ the angel said, ‘do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’”
Matthew 1:20-21
“Nothing is impossible with God.”
Luke 1:37
“All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: ‘Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means God is with us.’”
Matthew 1:22-23
Three declarations from Gabriel.
1. A Specific Prophecy.
2. A Special Person.
3. A Supernatural Presence.
Immanuel means at least three things:
Immanuel means Salvation
“There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12
Immanuel means Security.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39
Immanuel means Salvation, and Sympathy.
“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.”
Hebrews 4:15
Immanuel means Salvation, Sympathy, and finally:
3. Supply.
“When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until after her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.”
Matthew 1:24-25
