The Temptation of Jesus
Matthew 4:1-11
Sin.
Sin is doing something God said not to do,
or not doing something that God said To do.
“All have sinned.”
“The wages of sin is death."
"Without the shedding of blood, there’s no forgiveness of sins.”
Temptation.
Temptation is violating the Will and Ways of God.
“He was tempted in every way just as we are tempted but was without sin.”
Satan.
Satan is a real, intelligent being, who is behind the evil in this world.
1 Peter 5:8, “Be alert and of a sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Ephesians 6:10-12, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.”
John 10:10, “A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.”
James 1:15,16, “Each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
