A Common Conversion: Baptism

7 Cords we as believers share in Common:

2 types of Baptism in the New Testament: 

  1. Baptism of the Spirit
  2. Baptism of Water

 

Spirit Baptism

  • John 16:8 (ESV) “…when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment.”
  • Romans 3:23 “All have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God.”
  • Romans 5:12 (NLT), “When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.”
  • 1 John 1:9 (NLT), “If we tell Him our sins, He is faithful, and we can depend on Him to forgive us of our sins. He will make our lives clean from all sin.”
  • 1 Corinthians 3:16 (CEB), “Don’t you know that you are God’s temple and God’s Spirit lives in you?
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19 (GNT), “Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God.”
  • John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
  • John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
  • John 10:27-29, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
  • John 14:26 (ESV), “The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
  • 1 Corinthians 2:10-11, “These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except for their own spirit within them? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”
  • John16:13 “The Holy Spirit tells what is yet to come. The Holy Spirit is called the “Spirit of Truth”.
  • Romans 8:26-27, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”
  • Romans 8:11 (NKJV), “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
  • Romans 6:6 (NLT), “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.”
 

When We’re Baptized in Water;

2. We testify that we have new life in Christ.

  • Romans 6:10-11 (NIV), “The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” 

 

3. We testify that we are made new in Christ.

  • Philippians 3:12 (NCV), “I do not mean that I am already as God wants me to be. I have not yet reached that goal, but I continue trying to reach it and to make it mine. Christ wants me to do that, which is the reason he made me his.”
  • Romans 6:11-12 (NIV), “The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” 
  • Hebrews 10:24-25, “Let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
