To fully celebrate the Resurrection, we must first remember the agony of the cross. Just before Jesus was taken away, He offered his disciples the bread and the cup as a symbol of what He was about to endure. Then He told them to do it more, and as often as they do it, to remember Him. Jesus left the splendor of Heaven to come down to a cruel earth who hated Him, and eventually crucified Him. But He did all this willingly, knowing what was to come, because of His love for us. He did it, so everyone would have the opportunity to come to know Him as their personal Lord and Savior. He died for our sins. Communion is offered on this night, and others, but this night is special. For this, one night a year, is dedicated to remembering the depth of His supreme sacrifice for us, so that we may never forget. It is a somber night of reflection, as it should be. But take heart, the joy and celebration of Victory are coming on Sunday!
